Welcome!

Blogging with a Grateful Heart

I had a wonderful opportunity for Grateful Heart Home & Garden to be featured on Meadowlark Consulting’s Women to Watch blog. I have known the owner, Cory for many years as we have kids the same age and met through our parenting group over 14 years ago.

To read the full interview you can visit the site at: https://www.meadowlark.tech/blogging-with-a-grateful-heart/ but here are some of the questions featured.

First things first – what would your walk-on-stage music be?

Ordinary Miracle by Sarah McLachlan – it has a beautiful message of finding the miracles in your everyday life, very similar to the theme of my website and blog.

When did you start your business, and why did you create it?

I launched Grateful Heart Home & Garden in January 2021 in honor of my mom, Kelly who passed away in October 2020. I created the site to celebrate the special relationship we had with one another and to try to inspire others to find the beauty in what is. I deeply miss my Mom and by sharing our favorite recipes, my journey in the garden, and making beautiful flower bouquets it makes me feel closer to her. The site has grown to include our home renovation, DIY projects, lessons we can learn from nature, and my spiritual insights into navigating grief and finding peace.

What does it mean to be a grateful heart?

It is giving gratitude and discovering what we already have, it is revealing the good that is already present. It is seeing and believing in the innate good in others, expressing kindness to everyone we meet, and finding the light even in the darkest of times. Loving is living and I am living with a grateful heart.

Tell us about your business and what makes you unique in your field.

I believe each one of us has a special and unique light to shine and it is my goal to inspire others to see the natural beauty that surrounds us every moment through the posts on my website. I believe this site is unique because I allow myself to be honest and vulnerable in some of the topics I am posting about, not glossing over or making my life look or sound perfect.

What do you feel makes your audience special?

I believe that I am connecting with others on a deeper level by tackling a tough topic like grief, but I also have fun lighthearted posts like DIY projects, pretty flower bouquets, and delicious recipes for those who choose to join me on my blog journey.

If you could magically give all of your community members one thing in this world, what would it be, and why?

The gift of feeling at peace – we live in a world of high stress, high anxiety, and never-ending action. If we could all feel a sense of peace and contentment with our lives and allow ourselves to slow down and focus on what is right in front of us, I believe the world would be a more harmonious place

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?

Absolutely go for it – if this business will bring you joy and you are following your passion then it will be a big success (remember, you get to define what success is)! I think it is important for us to take risks, believe in ourselves, and follow our hearts while giving gratitude along the way.

If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?

I try not to live in the past or mull over past experiences – I can’t change how things unfolded. I strive to celebrate the past, flaws and all, and live in the present moment.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
