Celebrating my Mom

A New Year of Opportunity: 2023

Many of us see the new year as an opportunity to start fresh, to set new goals, and to dream about the year ahead. I see this as an opportunity to be introspective, to think about how I can best spend my minutes, hours, and days moving forward. Instead of thinking about resolutions (the firm choice to do or not do something) my family and I like to sit down and answer a series of questions. We then share our answers to those questions over the course of several days at dinner – it’s a fun way to connect with each other. I’d encourage you to answer the questions too if you feel so inspired.

List 5 things you would like to have happen in 2023.

What is one place you would like to go on vacation in 2023?

What is one thing you would like to do for yourself in 2023?

What do you love most about yourself?

What would you do if you were not afraid? Is there anything you would change in your life?

Do you know what your life’s purpose is? If so, how are you accomplishing that purpose?

What makes you happy? How can you incorporate these things into your daily experience?

Is there anything you can do to be a more supportive or encouraging partner or family member?

Hold onto the answers in a safe place and revisit them throughout the year – you’ll be surprised how the answers will shape how you spend your time, what you put on your calendar, and how they can inspire you to make changes towards a more fulfilling life. Here’s to a wonderful 2023!

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
