How to Make Your Own No Waste Disinfecting Wipes

In the spirit of spring cleaning I thought I would share how to make my favorite homemade disinfecting wipes. These are excellent for wiping down the kitchen countertops or tackling every day clean ups! You’ll need a large glass jar and 8-12 dishcloths.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water (I use filtered)
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol
  • 10 drops of essential oils – I like to use lemon or grapefruit but feel free to use what you like best!

Step One: In a 34 oz. jar with a lid (I like to use this $3 jar from IKEA) add in the water, vinegar, rubbing alcohol and essential oils.

Step Two: Add in your dishcloths – I like to use Swedish dishcloths like the ones below. They are very durable and easy to wash.

Step Three: With the lid sealed and the dishcloths inside turn the jar upside down so the dishcloths absorb the disinfecting solution. Then turn right side up again.

Step Four: Your DIY disinfecting wipes are ready to use!

You can keep these on your countertop and grab one each time you need to wipe down the counters or clean up a mess. You can wash the dishcloths as you normally would, the disinfecting solution will not damage clothes in the wash. If there is still a lot of liquid left in the jar I just keep adding clean dishcloths until all of the solution has been used.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
