How to Make Turkey Taco Meat
My husband Casey loves to make our family turkey taco meat – with just 5 ingredients it makes a quick and easy weeknight meal that can be used in a variety of ways. You can use this turkey taco meat for taco salad, in hard or soft shell tacos, or as nachos for a fun weekend meal. In this recipe I’ll share how I make turkey taco salad – a totally delicious and guilt free lunch or dinner option. This recipes makes a lot of turkey taco meat so you can use it throughout the week, the number of servings depend on how much you use per salad/taco/nachos.
Ingredients for Turkey Taco Meat:
- 2 pounds of ground turkey
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 clove of garlic, diced
- 1 cup of taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
Ingredients for Turkey Taco Salad:
- Heart of Romaine lettuce, washed and sliced thin
- Mexican cheese, shredded or Queso for light drizzling
- Salsa – this serves as the “dressing”
- Cilantro
- Optional but also delicious: guacamole, diced white onions or pico de Gallo, thinly sliced baby bell peppers.
Step One: Brown the ground turkey with the onion and garlic on medium high heat until fully cooked.
Step Two: Add 1/4 cup water, turn down the heat to medium-low and add 1 cup of taco seasoning until fully combined.
Step Three: Assemble your salad with the ingredients you’ve chosen. I use at least 2 cups of romaine, 1/3 cup of turkey taco meat + my toppings for a filling and healthy meal.
Enjoy!
