Fireplace Transformation
The first renovation post I wanted to make is for the main feature in our front living room – the fireplace! When we purchased the home the fireplace had a brown and black granite tile which wasn’t going to jive with our white, black, platinum, and deep blue gray color scheme. I also knew I didn’t have much in the budget to update the fireplace and if I am being honest – taking out the tile just seemed too overwhelming after all of the other work we had done.
My solution? Tile stickers! I started researching tile stickers and found Snazzy Decal – they sell removable, waterproof, scratch proof, and heat resistant tile stickers with 200+ pattern options!
If you think this is a solution for your space follow the steps below. Every single friend or family member who has walked through my front door instantly says – “I love your tile!” Now they know my secret… it’s a sticker.
Materials: Tile stickers, a ruler/measuring tape, small piece of plywood and a box cutter.
Time: This project took me about 90 minutes. It went a lot faster once I got the hang of applying the tile stickers and cutting the tile stickers to the correct size.
Cost: I paid $100 total for this project – a real steal if you ask me!
Step #1: Measure your tile – make sure you measure and then measure again. I needed a 12″ x 12″ sticker tile for my fireplace project.
Step # 2: Choose your pattern – there are lots of options outside of Etsy but I fell in love with the fun patterns by Snazzy Decal. Place your order and hope the tile stickers come quickly so you can get going on your project.
Step #3: Prep your surface – make sure your tiles or surface is clean so the stickers adhere. If you do need to clean your surface make sure it’s completely dry before you add your first tile sticker.
Step #4: Start your project! I decided to start on the upper left with a tile that was exactly 12″x12″ so I could get the hang of applying the tile sticker before I had to cut a tile sticker to size. If I made a mistake (which I did plenty of times!) I was able to slowly pull the tile sticker off and realign it. The tile stickers were very forgiving…
Step #5: If you need to cut a tile sticker to size this is where your ruler/measuring tape, plywood and box cutter come in. Measure the size of the tile so you know what size you need to cut your tile sticker to. Lay the piece of plywood on a table or kitchen countertop and using your box cutter cut your tile sticker to the correct size and then apply it. If you don’t use a piece of plywood your box cutter will scratch the surface and cause damage. The ruler also came in handy – it helped me cut straight across instead of at a slight angle.
Step #6: Once every tile is covered step back and look at your work. I’m sure you did an excellent job.
Step #7: Come back to this site and in the comments share a photo with me of your project – I’d love to see it!
