Fresh New Office Space for 2022!
Over the holidays I decided to move my home office upstairs into the guest room – the primary goal was to give an extra level between myself and my husband’s boat building workshop. The background noise of never ending power tools and sanding just wasn’t going to be my story for 2022. The problem was how to have an office and a guest room in the same space. Our solution? Hello Murphy bed… After extensive research we decided to purchase a Murphy bed from BredaBeds located in Idaho. Each bed is made to order and we selected the Metropolitan Collection queen size with a hutch (we chose the option with…

Exterior Transformation
After our interior renovation was complete we were able to shift our focus and refresh the exterior of the house. The main house color which is a light sage green is in very good condition and didn’t need to be repainted. The front and back porches and the trim and peaks of the home needed a fresh coat of paint. We hired an exterior paint color specialist to help us choose which colors would work well with the main house color. She came by with large paint swatches and held them up to the house and we were able to easily narrow it down to a couple of colors for…

Teen Room Transformation
My daughter is 13 and wanted a fresh look for her new room. I let her choose the paint color (a pretty light lavender for the walls and white trim) and new furniture. We extended the same floors throughout the whole house for a cohesive flow. While it is a small space we found some creative storage solutions that served a practical need as well. For example, her double bed has four large pull out drawers under the mattress (great for the countless boxes of Lego she has) and behind the headboard there is a place for books and her music player. Her three drawer dresser nestled nicely into the…

Primary Bedroom Transformation
We continued the house renovation upstairs as well using the same hardwood floors as downstairs, Bruce Hydropel in Natural Hickory. It is 100% wood construction and waterproof for up to 36 hours – this is particularly important in the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room. We painted the walls Platinum by Behr and all of the floor, window, and door trim was painted white for a fresh & clean look. I put two large vintage mirrors over our bed instead of a large headboard – this captures the light from the large window and really brightens up the space. The primary bathroom also got new floors, paint, a new toilet, and…

Stairs Transformation
As part of our home renovation and transformation we put in all new flooring. After taking the original carpet off of the stairs the real job was pulling out hundreds of staples and all of the tacking materials. Once the carpet, staples, and wood tacking strips were removed we did a deep clean with a ShopVac to pick up all of the dust and debris from years of build up. We installed Anderson Tuftex Stroll in Iced Marble. This is a Stainmaster PetProduct and holds up to lots of foot traffic with little wear and tear – thankfully this has held true since it was installed over a year ago…

Main Living Room Remodel
This was one of the first spaces we settled into and the layout of the furniture is the same as our previous house so it instantly felt like home. We used the same floors throughout the house, Bruce Hydropel Hickory in 5″ wide planks purchased from Home Depot. The walls were painted Platinum by Behr and the molding around the windows and floor trim was painted with Behr interior/exterior urethane alkyd semi-glass enamel in white (No.3900-N). We put in a new glass pendant over the breakfast table from Wayfair. The chairs are from Crate and Barrel and were custom upholstered – turquoise is my favorite and they add a bright…

Kitchen Renovation
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and enjoy hosting our friends and family. Our goal was to open up the space, create a breakfast bar, and freshen up the cabinets to match our style. The first and biggest step was to remove half of a wall to open up the space to our dining and front living room area (featured in a separate post) – this wasn’t an easy task but it transformed our entire downstairs and was well worth the effort. We installed Bruce Hydropel hardwood throughout the house for consistency and flow. We were able to use these floors in the kitchen and bathrooms since…

Living & Dining Room Remodel
The first task in our remodel was to tear out all of the carpet and small section of hardwood at the front entry and then take off all of the molding so it could be painted white. The new hardwood floors, Bruce Hydropel Hickory in 5″ wide planks purchased from Home Depot needed to be in the house for a minimum of 5-7 days so they could acclimate before they could be installed. The walls were painted Platinum by Behr and the molding around the windows and floor trim was painted with Behr interior/exterior urethane alkyd semi-glass enamel in white (No.3900-N). This paint was very forgiving and I would highly…

Fireplace Transformation
The first renovation post I wanted to make is for the main feature in our front living room – the fireplace! When we purchased the home the fireplace had a brown and black granite tile which wasn’t going to jive with our white, black, platinum, and deep blue gray color scheme. I also knew I didn’t have much in the budget to update the fireplace and if I am being honest – taking out the tile just seemed too overwhelming after all of the other work we had done. My solution? Tile stickers! I started researching tile stickers and found Snazzy Decal – they sell removable, waterproof, scratch proof, and…
