Fresh New Office Space for 2022!

Over the holidays I decided to move my home office upstairs into the guest room – the primary goal was to give an extra level between myself and my husband’s boat building workshop. The background noise of never ending power tools and sanding just wasn’t going to be my story for 2022. The problem was how to have an office and a guest room in the same space. Our solution? Hello Murphy bed…

After extensive research we decided to purchase a Murphy bed from BredaBeds located in Idaho. Each bed is made to order and we selected the Metropolitan Collection queen size with a hutch (we chose the option with 4 open shelves and three dresser drawers) along with LED lighting for reading at night. The bed arrived on a pallet and was 500 pounds – it was a good workout carrying everything inside for installation! It took about 9 hours to put it together – 7 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday and overall it was pretty simple and the instruction manual was easy to follow.

The next step was putting down a new rug from IKEA to soften the space and I put a table and 4 chairs in the center of the room that we already had on hand. I normally work at my stand up desk all day so having the table will be a nice option if I want to sit down or need to spread out work papers.

New workspace or game table!

My work monitors were mounted and my stand up desk was brought in. The final touches to make it warm and personal is my favorite part of the process, you’ll notice a lot of seashells in this room that I collected when I was a child. My husband made the gorgeous strip built surf board in the corner to keep with the beach vibe of the room.

The end result!

I am grateful it meets our every day needs and that we can still utilize it as a guest room when friends and family come to stay. Who wants to come visit?!

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
