Celebrating my Mom

Year Two: Grow Through What You Go Through

It is hard to believe that it has been two years since my Mom’s passing. There are some days when it feels like an eternity and others when it feels like moments ago I was with her – talking, laughing, traveling together, endless phone calls and texts, and sharing our thoughts and dreams with one another. Some days I feel at peace and others I miss her so much I can barely breathe. Each day I am learning to give myself more grace, more patience, and more time to reflect.

I was recently at our local book store and saw a quote that said, “Grow through what you go through.” As someone who loves to have a fresh cut flower/veggie/fruit garden I automatically think of plants and their cycle of life. A small planted seed – given the right light and nourishment- turns into an expression of life and beauty. Just as a seed is an idea that develops into a flower, or fruit, or tree, etc. we are all an idea that was uniquely created with a purpose to reflect – and as we grow through what we go through, we too are growing into new expressions of life and beauty.

As I prepared to give a speech at my younger brother’s wedding last month I came across something my Mom wrote in one of her journals. She says…

Shift your thought to tending to others – it is the power of love that enables us to move forwardYour purpose is to reflect – to be the idea you were created to be. The idea of Love.”

This statement encompasses who my Mom is and continues to be – living a life of service to her family and to sharing her love and inspiration. We both have an innate nature to tend to others and to always find the good and beauty in what is. It is with a grateful heart that I continue to move forward and to be the idea of Love I was created to be.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
