Floral Design & Bouquets

Friday Flowers

I absolutely love to make bouquets and nestle them around the house in special places to enjoy over the weekend and into the following week. I usually do this on Friday since it’s the day I adventure out of the house and run a few errands.

Today I purchased one bunch of light pink spray roses and one bunch of wax flowers from my local Trader Joe’s. I also went outside into my garden and cut a variety of greens to supplement my bouquets – Camila buds, ferns, rhododendron greens, and a few others.

I start by prepping the flowers and laying them all out on the counter so I can see what I am working with. I then remove greenery off the stems for an extra fresh and clean look – another benefit is that the leaves won’t get slimy in your water and make a mess later. I then start playing with the design adding the main feature flower in the middle, taller highlights in the back, and then nesting in other greens until it looks just right. I’ve added some photos of my process in the gallery so you can see how I add to each bouquet as I go.

I don’t think it’s possible to “mess up” when making a floral arrangement, if it’s beautiful to you then that is all that matters. I tend to make a lot of small arrangements so I can scatter them around the house and enjoy them in my office, on the dining room table, on the breakfast table, coffee table, my vanity, etc. Flower bouquets are a relatively cheap and easy way to bring natural beauty inside your home for you & your whole family to enjoy.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
