Home Renovation

Exterior Transformation

After our interior renovation was complete we were able to shift our focus and refresh the exterior of the house. The main house color which is a light sage green is in very good condition and didn’t need to be repainted. The front and back porches and the trim and peaks of the home needed a fresh coat of paint. We hired an exterior paint color specialist to help us choose which colors would work well with the main house color. She came by with large paint swatches and held them up to the house and we were able to easily narrow it down to a couple of colors for the front deck and stairs, for the triangular peaks and front door, and then a simple bright white for the trim.

Before the house could be painted it needed to be pressure washed and then it was a waiting game – waiting for just the right window of dry weather so the house could be painted. I also painted the front door a gorgeous deep teal to tie everything together.

These are the paint colors we ended up choosing and what type of paint we used.

Front Porch & Back Porch: Benjamin Moore Stonecutter – we used a Behr deep base porch and patio floor paint with low lustre

Trim: Behr Marquee White

Triangular Peaks and Handrails: Benjamin Moore Britannia Blue – we used Behr Ultra Stain-Blocking Paint and Primer In One

The final touch on the exterior was to spread six yards of top dressing – this was a task I tackled with my Mom when she was here for a visit in June 2020. We certainly knew how to work hard together and then when our task was complete we celebrated with a delicious homemade lasagna (I’ve posted the recipe on this site) and enjoyed an evening of conversation in the rocking chairs on the front porch.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.

Wow, it looks beautiful! It’s amazing how much the home transformed by just changing some of the colors. The porch looks like the perfect place to sit and listen to the birds. 🤗❤️
