Celebrating my Mom

My Easter Reflections for 2024

Easter was one of my Mom’s favorite holidays, she always bought my daughter an Easter dress and enjoyed organizing a family meal to celebrate. This year I have been thinking about the significance of Easter and what it means to me. In Christianity the focus of Easter is the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion, but I have been thinking about how Easter & Spring is a time for renewal and restoration.

I’ll admit, things have not been easy lately and what I want most is to have my Mom to lean on during challenging times. Instead of focusing on missing her presence in my life I have the opportunity to learn and grow. I can focus on renewing my thought and restoring my purpose moving forward. How can I do this? By focusing on what I know to be true – that I am here to give and to love unconditionally.

I love to give. It brings me so much happiness to share something that I have made with friends & family. A good example of this is an Easter basket (see photo above) I made for a dear friend filled with some of my very favorite things; a half dozen fresh eggs from our backyard flock, three jars of homemade jam, a handmade mini-everlasting wreath made with local flowers, and a fresh loaf of homemade artisan bread. Sharing the simple pleasures of home & garden is so fulfilling, we are living in such a complex world and it feels good to get back to the basics.

Let’s renew and restore humanity by giving. We can give our compassion, our consideration, our patience, and our love to those around us. It really can be that simple. The most valuable gift we can give is our time, our attention, our love & care -it’s the gift my Mom gave me.

I am a grateful heart.

My daughter’s Easter basket for 2024! I made this with locally dried flowers.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
