How to make Sourdough Pizza: Bread Machine Instructions

Every Sunday night we make homemade pizzas, watch a fun family show, and prepare for the busy week ahead. Since learning how to make sourdough last year I thought it would be fun to start making sourdough pizza crust for our family pizza nights. I prefer to make this dough in my bread machine since it takes a fraction of the time compared to the countertop version. This recipe makes two 12″ pizzas or four individual pizzas.

I use this compact bread machine by Cuisinart – I use it to make pizza dough and my sourdough every week.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup of sourdough discard
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, I use pink Himalayan
  • 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

Step One: In a glass measuring cup add the milk and the water, pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Step Two: Add the flour, salt, sugar, canola oil, and sourdough discard to the bread machine bread pan. Important note: Make sure your kneading blade is the drive shaft before putting in the ingredients.

Step Three: Add the warm water and warm milk mixture to the bread machine.

Step Four: Select the dough program, this should be 1 1/2 hours long. Push start.

Step Five: When the dough program is complete, portion out the dough into your desired serving sizes. Split the dough in half if you want two 12″ pizzas or split it into four equal portions if you want to make small individual size pizzas.

Step Six: Roll out or stretch the pizza crust to your desired size and thickness. Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Step Seven: Add your toppings and bake for another 15 minutes.

Enjoy!

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
