2021 Garden Order

I had a lot of fun picking out what to grow in the garden this year and also have a lot of seeds that my Mom gave to me. I am looking forward to planting her seeds and seeing their beauty and bounty in the coming year. My Mom had a green thumb – she was known for her gorgeous flower beds but I remember many afternoons harvesting blueberries, rhubarb, and cutting fresh herbs as a child. Here is what I am planning to grow in 2021…

Vegetables

  • Temptress sweet corn – I am an Iowa girl and sweet corn is an absolute must in my garden even if it may not work out.
  • Sungold Hybrid cherry tomatoes – these will probably need to ripen in the greenhouse given our grow season.
  • Candy Hybrid onions
  • Red Pontiac potatoes
  • Sugar snap peas
  • Snow peas
  • Green beans
  • Lettuce
  • Radish
  • Tomatillos – I love to make salsa and then enchiladas verde!
  • + many more…

Herbs

  • Chives
  • Italian Parsley
  • Rosemary
  • Dill
  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Cilantro
  • Mint

Flowers

  • Delightfully Fragrant Peony collection – peony’s are my Mom’s favorite flower so I’m eager to get these planted in the flower bed.
  • Josee Reblooming Lilac – this is a dwarf lilac that blooms in late spring and then intermittently until frost. I absolutely love fresh lilacs on my dining room table.
  • I also have many packets of flower seeds from my Mom I will be planting this year and I planted iris, tulips, crocus, and bluebells last Fall – many of them are already peeking out of the ground.

Fruit

  • Dwarf Meyer Lemon tree – this tree bears medium size round lemons year round and will be kept in the greenhouse.
  • Dwarf Calamondian Orange tree – beautiful white flowers are followed by small, juicy, and tart oranges – another tree for the greenhouse!
  • Sweet Repeat raspberries – one crop in June and another harvest in Fall.
  • Ka-Bluey Northern Highbush blueberries – these are medium size blueberries that have hints of peach, raspberry and strawberry.
  • Sweet Sensation strawberries – advertised as the most productive junebearer – I’ll be planting 50 of these with the hopes of a big enough harvest to make my Mom’s homemade strawberry jam!
  • Sugar Baby watermelon – compact vines produce 6-10 lb. watermelons, sounds like the perfect summer treat to me!
  • We also have an apple and asian pear tree on our property + enough blackberries for plenty of pies.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
