JB’s Homemade Sweet Summer BBQ Sauce

My Mom would call my Dad, JB, short for John Bradley. This recipe actually came from one of my Mom’s college roommates but I always remember my Dad making this sauce when I was a kid. Several years ago I asked him for the recipe – he just laughed and said it was “by look“. We took some guesses at measurements and I think this version captures it perfectly. We like to use this on grilled chicken in the summer (with fresh sweet corn on the side of course!), in place of ketchup if we make homemade turkey sloppy joe’s, or on one of our favorite homemade pizzas, BBQ chicken.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ketchup
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup minced & dried onion
  • 3 tablespoons liquid smoke – add more if you like a little more zip in your sauce

Step One: Add all of the ingredients together in a glass bowl – mix well until fully combined.

Step Two: Enjoy – keeps in the fridge for 1+ month.

I was born and raised as a farm girl in the Midwest and have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest working as a marine mammal biologist. I love spending time with family, gardening, being outside, and I enjoy making delicious meals for my friends and family. My beloved mama, Kelly passed away in late 2020 and this website is dedicated to her - she taught me to be a grateful heart and see the beauty that surrounds me in all that I do.
