In March 2024 I went to a Sourdough Workshop and learned how to make sourdough. Everyone was sent home with 25g of starter and basic instructions of how make it yourself. After months of practice in the kitchen I’ve finally perfected my loaf and my sourdough process – I am sure this will be ever evolving but I wanted to share my step by step guide. In this recipe the bread machine is only going to be used to mix your ingredients, we are not going to bake the loaf in the bread maker. Are you new to sourdough? If so, you can check out some of my top tips…

How to Make my Favorite Lemon Arugula Salad with Honey Goat Cheese
This is my signature salad – it pairs well with so many meals and it is super simple to make. Every time I serve this salad I am asked for the recipe so I finally decided to measure out all of the ingredients so I could share it on this site. Serves 6. Ingredients: Step One: Cut the rind off of the lemons, then cut the lemons into quarters and dice into small sections. Put the diced lemons into a small bowl. Toss the rind but make sure any lemon juice on the cutting board is put into the small bowl with the diced lemons – the more juice the…

How to make Cinnamon Apple Turnovers with Glaze
I recently shared how to make jam turnovers with glaze but I tried a new version I just have to share! I use a fresh apple to make my Mom’s favorite cinnamon apples and then tuck the soft apple mixture into the turnovers. Oh so delicious! Makes 6. Ingredients: Step One: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Step Two: Roll out the thawed sheet of puff pastry on a large sheet of parchment paper with a rolling pin. This will make your puff pastry nice and thin. Using a knife cut the puff pastry into 6 equal rectangles. Step Three: In a small non-stick pan on medium heat add the…

These jam turnovers make an excellent breakfast on the go, snack, or even dessert! These are super simple and amazingly delicious and you can choose whatever flavor of jam you want so there are endless options. Absolutely the Best Sugar Cookie Frosting!
Making sugar cookies is a tried and true holiday tradition for our family. My Dad flew in yesterday to spend the next three weeks with us and to welcome him my daughter and I made a batch of sugar cookies. This sugar cookie frosting recipe is so delicious and simple and has been our go to for many years. We also branched out and tried something new this time – we made peppermint frosting which we would highly recommend! This recipe makes enough frosting for ~24 sugar cookies. Ingredients: Step One: In a medium bowl add the softened cream cheese, soft butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Using an electric mixer…

Healthy Broccoli Cheddar Soup with Homemade Garlic Cheese Biscuits
Snowy weather has moved into the Pacific Northwest which makes me want to eat something warm and comforting for dinner. This has been a trusted recipe in our house for several years and I think you’ll really love it too. If you want to splurge, serve this soup in a bread bowl and forego the biscuits. Serves 4-6. Let’s start with the soup first…. Ingredients: Step One: In a large stock pot sauté the onion in the olive oil, ~4 minutes until nice and golden. Add garlic, stir for ~1 minute. Add in the broccoli florets and sauté for another 5 minutes. Add 2 cups of chicken broth and simmer…

Kelly’s Homemade Classic Caramel Sauce
This is my Mom’s recipe and she shared it with me in 2013 – we have made it together many times. In our cheesecake making days we would use this sauce on our Caramel Turtle cheesecake, our bestseller! This is another wonderful option for host/hostess gifts during the holidays or to share with friends and family throughout the year. If gifting, I like to put the caramel sauce in 4 oz. jars with gold lids (this recipe will make 12 4oz. jars). Makes 1 1/2 quarts. Ingredients: Step One: In a large saucepan combine the heavy whipping cream, sugar, and dark Karo syrup and mix well. Using a candy thermometer…

JB’s Homemade Sweet Summer BBQ Sauce
My Mom would call my Dad, JB, short for John Bradley. This recipe actually came from one of my Mom’s college roommates but I always remember my Dad making this sauce when I was a kid. Several years ago I asked him for the recipe – he just laughed and said it was “by look“. We took some guesses at measurements and I think this version captures it perfectly. We like to use this on grilled chicken in the summer (with fresh sweet corn on the side of course!), in place of ketchup if we make homemade turkey sloppy joe’s, or on one of our favorite homemade pizzas, BBQ chicken.…

Quick & Easy Ooey Gooey Molten Lava Cakes
This is a “fancy” dessert you can make with just a few minutes of prep time. I serve this regularly when we have friends over for dinner. This recipe has just 5 ingredients and is sure to impress your guests. Serves 4. Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter 2 tablespoons flour 2/3 cup bittersweet chocolate chips 2 large eggs + 2 large egg yolks 1/4 cup of sugar Serve with a scoop of ice cream (optional) Step One: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Step Two: Spray four 6 oz. ramekins or glass bowls. I find that using Baker’s Joy or a cooking spray that has flour works best – this will…
